Student Success Librarian
The Student Success Librarian will lead the development of a comprehensive information literacy curriculum, incorporating evidence-based instructional design practices in support of the College’s diverse learning community. The Student Success Librarian will design and maintain accessible learning materials to support the information literacy curriculum, perform regular assessments, and collaborate with campus partners to ensure the library instruction program supports student success.
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive information literacy curriculum, incorporating evidence-based instructional design practices that recognize the needs of diverse learners.
- Designs and maintains learnings materials and tools supportive of the information literacy curriculum, performing regular assessments in collaboration with colleagues.
- Acts as a liaison with campus partners (e.g. Writing Center, Gates Center, Office of Faculty Development, Academic Support, etc.) to ensure the library instruction program supports student success. Fosters partnerships to enhance the library instruction program and student engagement.
- Teaches instruction programs with primary focus on First Year Studies.
- Helps students and faculty learn about the value and use of libraries for their academic and personal success. Guides the library’s instructional outreach and collaborates with Access & Outreach Librarian in broader outreach programming.
- Communicates and trains colleagues (library and beyond) on new developments and best practices in library instructional design, technologies, and instruction assessments.
- Provides in-depth reference for students, faculty, and staff about research projects, individually or in small groups; and provides research and reference services in person and through email, chat, conferencing software, phone, etc.
- Participates in campus committees and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program
- 2+ years of information literacy instruction experience or coursework in Education preferred
- Evidence of competence in planning, project management, and/or data management
- Demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and excellent customer service skills
- Reference and instruction experience in an academic library preferred
- Experience working with diverse populations preferred
- Evening or weekend work may be required based on campus community needs
- Ability to plan, manage, and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the strategic goals of the Library and the College
- Knowledge of current trends in Information Literacy Instruction, including best practices and a commitment to exploring how developing trends can be applied to transform local operations
- Sustain an affirming, creative, collaborative, and ethical work environment, fostering respect among library and campus colleagues
- Foster a thriving instruction program and a user-focused commitment to accessibility in support of Lake Forest College’s commitment to acting as an anti-racist institution
- Familiarity with academic environments and course design
