Joy Matteson has been appointed as University Librarian of the Benedictine University Library, effective May 9, 2022.
“I’m very grateful to be given this opportunity to serve the library, faculty, and students at Benedictine,” Joy said. “I’m excited to create and implement a new vision for the BenU Library that enhances everyone’s experience on campus.”
Joy holds a BA in Historical Theology from the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago and an MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She brings with her 14 years of experience working in libraries, primarily in the public sphere. Prior to her appointment as University Librarian, Joy was the Adult and Teen Services Librarian at the Downers Grove Public Library, where she advocated for the library through business partnerships and large-scale community projects.
As she steps into her new role as University Librarian, Joy looks forward to collaborating on campus DEI initiatives and building relationships across the institution. “I wanted to take the leadership skills, project management, and passion I have for our profession,” she said, “and explore how I can support the academic goals and vision of Benedictine University.”
