On March 5, 2019, Oesterle Library at North Central College in Naperville will host a workshop on constructing display mounts for rare books presented by Dr. Lindsay Shannon, Assistant Professor of Art History at North Central College. Dr. Shannon will demonstrate construction of basic items to protect rare books while they are on display, including polypropylene dust jackets, mat board book cradles, and book shoes. The workshop will conclude with a question and answer period and a chance for participants to try the techniques. There is no cost to register, but participation is limited to the first ten registrants. Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP to archives@noctrl.edu by February 25.
LINDSAY SHANNON specializes in nineteenth and twentieth-century American art, with research interests in public art, gender studies, and regionalism. Prior to her arrival at North Central, Shannon was Curator of Modern Art at the Blandon Art Museum (IA) and a curator in archival and art collection management at the University of Iowa. She has mounted both traditional and digital exhibits and was a featured historical consultant on PBS’s History Detectives.
