During January Term, Elmhurst College offered Honors students a unique Chicago-based learning experience called “Great Chicago Libraries.” Taught over the last 15 years by faculty librarians, the credit course uses David Kolb’s “City as Text” pedagogical method to structure ethnographic and physical explorations of Chicago-area libraries. Some of the institutions visited have included:
- Prtizker Military Museum
- Harold Washington Library
- Chicago Botanical Garden
- National Museum for Mexican Art
- McDonald’s Golden Archives
- Brookfield Zoo
- Newberry Library
- Chicago Museum Campus libraries
- Oriental Institute
- …and many, many more!
