Position Purpose: Director of Phillips Library supports learning by developing appropriate library services, collections, and staffing. The Director carries the responsibility for all library programming and must promote change and improvements to the library as needed.

Essential Job Functions:
- Reviews and recommends library policies and services and implements new or revised policies and services.
- Hires, manages, and develops all library staff and student employees.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the library such as reference desk hours, liaison to academic programs, collection development to ensure services are provided to our students.
- Responsible for maintaining records, analyzing data, and generating reports as needed.
- Prepares annual budget, supervises, controls expenditures, and makes budget allocations.
- In conjunction with the curator, supervises, and coordinates the acquisition, deacquisition, cataloging, display, use, and preservation of materials in the Jenks Memorial Collection of Adventual Materials and the Doris K. Colby Archives.
- Reviews, develops, and implements library functions and workflow to improve services to the university community.
- Interfaces with all levels of university administration, faculty, staff, and students to develop and maintain a library program suited to the needs and programs of the university.
- Attends and represents Aurora University in national, statewide, and regional conferences/organizations and brings back new ideas to the organization to improve our programs and professional skills of self and library personnel.
- Acts as liaison with consortia, especially CARLI, RAILS, and LIBRAS.
- Serves on, or provides library alternate to, General Education Committee and Instructional Services Committee and other university committees as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
- ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science required. Second master’s degree in a related subject preferred. Coursework in business or finance is preferred.
Experience:
- Five years of academic library experience is required. Three years of increasing supervisory experience preferred.
Skills:
- Employs management techniques effectively in directing, planning, and staffing library.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Using a podium to deliver instruction; sitting or standing at desk to assist students; moving about campus; lifting books and pushing book carts; extensive use of computers and other technology.
