Grace Simons
MSLIS, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; BA English, North Park University
Electronic Resources Librarian
North Park University
What are your main duties at your library?
I manage all aspects of our electronic resources. I also assist with all things Alma and PrimoVE, cataloging, course reserves, weeding, and other Technical Services projects.
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy working on a variety of projects and knowing that the work I do helps patrons find the materials they need.
What are you working on now that you’re excited about?
This past fall we offered a Diversity Grant for members of the institution to submit titles they would like to see added to the library collection. We received a handful of responses and are promoting the titles this spring. I am hopeful that we can offer this grant again this fall and that we will have more people participate.
Why did you decide to become a librarian?
I have always loved libraries and grew up going to public libraries every weekend. My final year of undergrad I was hired in the archives and the archivist and other librarians encouraged me to consider librarianship. I was hired as the copy cataloger after graduation and decided to get my MSLIS the next year.
What are you reading, watching, or listening to right now?
I am currently reading The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson and Thrawn by Timothy Zahn, and I am watching Schitts Creek.
What are your hobbies?
I love baking, playing with my dogs, and just recently started quilting.
